Uinta Mountains

The Uinta Mountain range is a popular place to camp in Utah, namely you can pull over and camp just about anywhere. There are camping grounds in the Uinta’s, but why pay if you can find your own slice of paradise.

If you want a spot in the camp grounds, you’d better book it or arrive early. In our case, there was nothing left. We tried America Fork Canyon first. While the top of the canyon is two hours out of Salt Lake City, its well worth the drive. Aspen tree groves cover the summit.

In hopes of finding another spot, we drove through Heber City to the south side of Kamas. Hwy 189 will lead you back into the Uinta Mountain Range. We headed for Mill Hollow campground, but set up camp just south of the turnoff.

In the morning we woke up to snow, packed up and went home. Its still spring in the mountains. Sometimes you stay, sometimes you don’t

Hiking in Emigration Canyon

One of the best things about Utah is all of the activities right outside the door. When the snow melts out comes the green, but you have to enjoy it while it lasts. One of my favorite hikes, and fairly mellow, runs along the Emigration Canyon Ridgeline. From the parking lot, there are two trails, one heads west toward salt lake city and the other heads north-east. You won’t run into a lot of hikers in this area, which is why I like it, but you’ll find every cyclist in the salt lake valley re-hydrating in the packing lot. This is the view of East Canyon Reservoir.
