Do you drink enough water? Well I certainly don’t, or at least didn’t. I’m sorry to say that the last year of work and collage has placed a few extra pounds on my previously active 5’5″ frame. I’ve decided enough is enough.

Yesterday I invested in a weight scale and was mortified. I’ve hit 145 pounds. I’ve known for a while that I was out of shape and (exahusted), but with spring lingering near by its time for the summer trim down.

I’m certainly no expert to dieting, but I’m starting my slim down with a few small steps.

1. Drink more water. To be a bit more specific, there are 64 oz in 8 glasses of water. So in nicole code that translates to, 3.25 bottles of Aquafina. (20 oz bottle) So I’ve aimed for 1 bottle before breakfast, 1 bottle before lunch, 1 bottle before dinner, and 1 bottle for exercise.

2. Watch what I eat. Lucky for me, Eating between 1200-1500 calories a day is normal. The problem is what I’m consuming. Sometimes, I do great, other times not so much. Lets face it, its expensive to eat healthy. Luckily this is where my athletic endevors come in handy.

Most athletes are poor and most athletes watch what they eat. So here’s an example of what I eat:

Breakfast:
two slices whole wheat toast with peanut butter.
1 small apple

Lunch:
Can of Chicken noodle soup (low sodium)
1/2 cup of raw carrots.
1 cup smart pop popcorn

Dinner:
2 cups Spinch
1 Pear
1/8 cup dried cranberries
1/8 cup almonds
1/8 cup crumbled feta
citrus dressing (80 cal)

Sweet:
snack size dark chocolate bar.

3. Exercise. Lets face it, no one likes to do the same thing day after day, but being the amputee I am, my options are limited. Usually when I hit the gym. I spend 10-15 min either on a bike or a steeply inclined treadmill. Just enough to get my heart pumping. I spend the remainder of my time with free weights, or if I’m rushed, I’ll jump on the express line and bounce from one weight machine to the next.

Sometimes, I just take dudley for a walk. In which case I’ll grab hand weights and do some reps in front of the TV.

Pilates, while intensly difficult at times, is one of my favorites, simply because its done on the floor. I also like Zumba, but I do look like an idiot when i’m doing.

What are you doing for your slim down?!! Ready, set, go!
